Connection

After reading chapters 1-9, I started to think about something that has happened to a couple of my friends. Just as Hassan loses his mother, not to death, but to his mother's selfishnessness, some of my friends have been through the same situation. For example, my friend joe's father left him and his mother the day he was born. He didn't even stick around to meet her own son, and he made sure that he was nowhere to be found when joe's mom came looking for him. He pretty much dropped off the face of the earth and never came back. Now, it's been over 18 years and he's still never even made an attempt to meet or take care of his son. How could someone just leave their newborn child without ever looking back? Why haven't the cops found him and arrested him for not taking care of his kid? Many parents take off and get away with not paying a dime of child support, yet the ones who stick around are forced to pay.

Culture

As I was reading, I came across the word Hazara, and I knew it was some kind of person, but I really had no idea of anything else besides that. After researching them, I found out that most of them reside in Afghanistan in a place known as Hazarajat. The Haza speak a language called Hazaragi, both at home and in the public. They resemble the Mongoloids in appearance. They are one of the most resistant ethnic groups when it comes to government control.
